Jeff Beck

It’s the year of the guitar masters! Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Jeff Beck are just a part of the incredible collection of guitarists performing around the US (and beyond) this winter.
The guitar legend Jeff Beck who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992, and then as a solo artist in 2009, recently won his fifth Grammy award in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance category for a version of the Beatles’ “Day in the Life”.
Currently Jeff Beck tour continues with Eric Clapton. The two guitar icons have both been a part of the British rock band The Yardbirds, but not at the same time. They started their collaboration in 2008 when Beck invited Clapton to join him for a series of gigs in London. A year later they got together for a few shows in Japan and this year they kicked the Eric Clapton US four month tour starting with a dazzling show at the O2 Arena in London.
Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton each perform a set with their own band before doing a joint set. The duo will make a stop in New York, Montreal and Toronto.
Beck will be performing songs from his new album, “Emotion & Commotion,” which is to be released in the middle of April. The 65-year-old Beck showed what he’s made of when he performed in London accompanied by a large string section and his new touring quartet including whirlwind drummer Narada Michael Walden and bassist Rhonda Smith.
Among the songs Beck chose for his show at the O2 Arena were his interpretation of Benjamin Britten’s "Corpus Christi Carole," "People Get Ready," "Big Block," "Hammerhead," and the Irish "Elegy for Dunkirk," with the stunning violin part performed by Sharon Corr.

This soiree for Seven Serenades for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar celebrates the debut solo recording by Ancient Future leader Matthew Montfort. Montfort will perform on both the scalloped fretboard guitar, a special modified instrument able to produce ornaments more characteristic of the sitar, and on a Godin Glissentar, an 11 string fretless guitar based on the oud. While previously known more for his compositions for the trendsetting world music group Ancient Future, Seven Serenades features his intimate improvisational guitar work.

Sergio Mendoza y La Orkestra

Thursday December 17th 2009 - Treat yourself for the holidays to an amazing evening of pure Latin bliss! Introducing:

Sergio Mendoza y La Orkestra w/ special guest Salvador Duran & DJ Seduce @ The Rhythm Room

Sergio Mendoza y La Orkestra is an amazing latin band taking you back to the days of the Indie-Mambo sound with its 12 plus members band Y La Orkesta. Combining traditional Cuban rhythms with the swing of American Jazz, and Big Band harmonic sophistications. Unlike revival Mambo from the 1990’s, Y La Orkesta maintains their influence from 1940’s and 1950’s Jazz by utilizing tight percussion and high register trumpets. DJ Seduce joins the night spinning an all vinyl Dj set in tribute to FANIA Records. Come dance to all the Latin Jazz, Salsa, Cuban Latin Rhythms you can handle!!

Tickets are just $8.00 pre-sale / $10.00 at the door. Plus the Rhythm Room will have the BBQ Rack Shack serving food! You won't find a better performance all winter!

Contact me for more details / pre-sale tickets if you're interested. I posted this event, for those who love the sounds of live Latin rhythms.

An Evening of Ancient and Modern Guitar Music from Around the World

Matthew Montfort, the leader of the pioneering world fusion music ensemble Ancient Future, brings tonalities from world music traditions to guitar. Montfort will be performing music from his new release, 'Seven Serenades for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar.' The recording showcases his pioneering work on the scalloped fretboard guitar, a special modified instrument able to produce ornaments more characteristic of the sitar.

Opening act Larry Aynesmith will perform works for classical guitar inspired by South American, Turkish and modern musical influences.
