It must be one of the biggest bargains in the UK festival calendar – a weekend full of top world music names in Lloyd Park in Croydon on August 1-2 at the totally free Croydon Summer Festival.

The festival divides into a World Party on August 1 with such acts as Cameroonian kwassa kwassa king Kanda Bongo Man, Dreadzone, Eduardo Niebla Experience, Latin Dub Sound System and the dulcet tones of Scotland’s most famous twins, the Proclaimers, and the Croydon Mela – one of the UK’s oldest – on August 2. The Mela is headlined by bhangra legend Malkit Singh – who received an MBE last year for services to Punjabi music, something his fans would thoroughly concur with. He is joined by Veronica, Channi Singh with Alaap, Swami, Grand Union Bangla Band and Bireswar Gautam amongst others.

All this world music will be surrounded by street theatre in Lloyd Park, Croydon from 1-8.30pm on August 1 and 1-8pm on August 2.
